Kenneth E “Kenny” Goins, age 62, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018. Born August 29, 1955 in Wilmington, DE, Kenny attended Thomas McKean High School. After high school he served as PFC for 4 years in the US Army. He was honorable discharged in 1974. Kenny met and married his wife Peggy L. Johnson Goins. They lived in Jefferson, NC, where Kenny was a jailer for the sheriff’s department. He also volunteered for the Jefferson Fire Dept. Kenny and Peggy returned to DE in 1995.
Kenny's hobby and passion was his trains. He had a very elaborate train display which he spent many happy hours maintaining. Kenny had a steady hand painting the figures he used in the towns around the trains. He could answer any question about trains. Never far behind in anything he did were his adored and much loved Chihuahuas. Sandy, BJ and Smokey were more than just pets, they were his children. Kenny was thankful for them, knowing he had to care for them made him get up every day no matter how much pain he had.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Peggy Goins; son, Jon-Michael Goins and his wife Heather Merced-Goins; grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan, Aiden Merced-Goins; granddogs, Blake and Milo;
and brothers and sisters: Jane May Ferrin, Fred May, Ruth Chapel, and Dave May. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Gilbert O. Johnson 1984 and Violet M. Johnson 1987.
The family will be taking Kenny home to North Carolina for his final resting place. A graveside service and entombment will be held 11:00 am Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel and Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer, Jefferson, NC 28640. No services will be held in Delaware.
