Mr. Kenneth Fields Bower, better known as "Ken" age 96 of West Jefferson passed away the evening of Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. Mr. Bower was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on Saturday, September 2, 1922 to the late George Cecil and Hattie Bare Bower. In addition to his parents Mr. Bower was also preceded in death by his wife Ophelia Calloway Bower, two brothers, Paul and Pell Bower as well as two sisters, Ruby Little and Ann Smith. Ken was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Beaver Creek where he served on the Finance Committee. Ken enjoyed watching sports and he was especially a UNC and Braves fan. Mr. Bower was also an outdoors man, he loved hunting and fishing. Ken will be remembered as an entrepreneur because he always enjoyed the art of making a deal.
Mr. Bower is survived by two sons, Greg Bower and wife Nancy of Crumpler and William Bower and wife Mary Beth of Atlanta, GA, five grandchildren, Megan Pandoff and husband Ryan, Ashley Park and husband Brian, Alexander Bower, Holly Bower and Erica Bower, great-grandchildren, Rylan and Cora Pandoff. Three sisters, Madge McNeill of West Jefferson, Audrey Hurley of Jefferson and Wanda Waldenburger of New Mexico as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel at 6:00 in the evening with Rev. Kevin York officiating. Entombment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Garden's Mausoleum of Prayer. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 pm one hour prior to the service.
