Mr. Kermit Leslie Wilcox, age 81 of Lansing, NC went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 25th, 2022. Kermit was born in Tazewell, VA on June 5, 1941 to Letcher and Mae Eller Wilcox. Kermit was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Wilcox.
He is survived by: his wife, Glenna Sexton Wilcox of the home; one son, Larry Wilcox (Leslie Fazenbaker) of Lansing; one daughter, Rena Wilcox of Millers Creek; one grandson, Karson Fazenbaker. He is also survived by a brother, Jim Wilcox and wife Teri of Walkertown. Kermit attended Lansing High School.
Kermit joined the military and served in the Army, received a good conduct medal and was honorably discharged. He served in Post 275 of the American Legion for 45 years, serving two terms as commander. He coached little league baseball for over 25 years, was a member of the Helton volunteer ambulance service, and worked at United Chemi-Con for 39 years. After retirement, he worked for Badger Funeral Home and Ashelawn Memorial Chapel & Gardens.
Kermit was a member of Sturgills Baptist Church, where he served faithfully.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
The family requests no food or flowers please. Memorials may be made to the CART Fund for Alzheimer's Research, c/o Ashe County Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1045, Jefferson, NC 28640.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to Sheena H., Ashe Medics and Donald Brooks, the staff at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City and Ashe Memorial Hospital, and Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehab for the care provided in his final days.
