Leona Maxine (Pennington) Weaver

Leona Maxine Pennington Weaver, age 87 of Lansing passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at her home. Born in Grayson County, VA, to the late Ed and Stella Riffey Pennington, she lived a life that was marked by a deep love for family, faith, and simple pleasures. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Rev. T.A. Pennington, Jerry Pennington, and Norman Pennington, sisters Louise Richardson and Lena Fain, newborn baby, Cathy and her husband Wayne Weaver.

Leona found joy in the simple pleasures of life, relishing in yard sales and nurturing her love for flower and vegetable gardening. Renowned for her cooking skills, she was a talented cook, with her chicken and dumplings becoming a cherished family favorite.

A member of Tuckerdale Baptist Church, Leona took solace and delight in attending church services. Her fondest moments were spent with family, and her faithful companion, Cookie the dog, brought her immeasurable joy.

Mrs. Weaver is survived by: her children, Carlos Weaver and wife Linda, Debbie Weaver, Darlene Weaver, Sandy Holman and husband Joe, Tim Weaver and wife Kathy all of Lansing, and Carol Norris and husband Stephen of West Jefferson. Also surviving are brothers, Fairley Pennington of Coeburn, KY, Larry Pennington and wife Rita of Whitetop, VA, and Roger Pennington and wife Linda of Roanoke, VA; ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and eight great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Tuckerdale Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Shepherd, Rev. Brian Weaver and Elder Lundy Finley. Burial will follow in the Blevins Cemetery in Whitetop, VA. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00 noon prior to the service at the church.
