Leona Ruth (Newton) Farrington

Leona Ruth Newton Farrington, age 99, formerly of Crumpler, died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Vienna Village Assisted Living Center in Pfafftown, NC. She was born in Flint, Michigan on March 13, 1919 to the late Leo and Mabel Burrough Newton. On September 14, 1946 she married the late William Earl Farrington. In 1972 she was honored to be a representative to the Democratic National Convention in Miami, Florida. She and her husband moved to Ashe County in 1994. Mrs. Farrington had a tolerant nature, an open heart and mind. Working with youth through the church was one of her passions in life.

Mrs. Farrington is survived by, one daughter, Ruth Farrington (Bob Bamberg) of Sparta and one son, Jed Farrington (Debbie) of Winston Salem.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 on what would have been her and her late husband’s 72nd wedding anniversary, at 1:30 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:30 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn.
