Lois Valeyrie Farmer Nichols, age 86 of Creston, NC died Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Mrs. Nichols was born November 8, 1929 in Ashe County to the late Clifford and Ida Farmer. She was a member of Big Laurel Mennonite Church.
"Granny", as she was lovingly referred to by all, was the salt of the Earth. She loved and adored her family and left many memories to cherish. She taught her family to love unconditionally and that to give is better than to receive.
Her work ethic exceeded most. Being born in 1929 during the Great Depression, her life was defined by faith in God, hard work, determination, being devoted to family, and appreciating the little things in life.
She loved to attend church and spent her latter days volunteering at the Ashe Outreach in Creston where she packed food for the community's children and served beverages at the fish fry's.
She will be forever remembered for her gentle and giving spirit and her contagious smile.
Granny Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Lacey Nichols, a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Greer Nichols, a grandson, two great-grandsons, one great-great-grandson, two brothers, Darrell Farmer and Howard Farmer, and a sister, Phyllis Osborne.
She is survived by: four sons, Junior Nichols of Creston, Jerry Nichols and Mildred Farmer of Creston, Ronnie Nichols and wife Paulette of Mountain City, TN, Larry Nichols and wife Deena of Mountain City, TN; one daughter, Evelyn Deems and husband Rick of Mountain City, TN; two brothers, R.C. Farmer and Tom Farmer; five sisters, Blanche Arthur, Lena Keys, Eva Sue Weaver, Wanda Hoosier, and Patricia Mahaffey; dear and loving friends, Odell Wyatt and Muriel Payne. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
