Loyd Jones, age 88 of West Jefferson died on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro. Mr. Jones was born on February 7, 1932 in Ashe County to the late Ora Eli and Donna Mae Sullivan Jones. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jones Sexton and one brother, Kyle Jones.
Mr. Jones served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf, surf fishing and working around the farm when his health allowed. Loyd always liked to follow current events as well as sports, in Loyd's words "Go Duke!"
Mr. Jones is survived by: his wife, Betty Lewis Jones, two daughters, Twila Jones Johnson and husband, Ellis of Jonesville, Alice Jones Vannoy and husband Tim of Jefferson, two sisters, Jeanette Barker of Warrensville and Colleen Buchanan of Jonesboro, one brother, Boyd Jones of Jefferson; five grandchildren, Phillip Johnson and wife Cassie, Aaron Johnson and wife Aline, Garett Johnson, Erica Vannoy Carson and husband Matthew and Amos Vannoy; two great-grandchildren, Henry Johnson and Karigan Carson, several nieces and nephews also survive.
The body will lie in state in Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 3:00-5:00pm at Badger Funeral Home. The family will not be present to receive friends.
A private family service will take place with burial in the Lewis-Kemp Cemetery with military rites.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Lewis-Kemp Cemetery Fund.
