Loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend... Margaret Jean Hughes, age 88, of Creston, NC, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. Margaret was born on September 4, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. She then moved to Lansing, North Carolina in 1988 along with her late husband, Mr. J.D. Hughes, where they became residents of Ashe County. Margaret was the sister to one surviving brother Mike Novak of Street, Maryland, one deceased brother Al Novak, and one deceased sister Helen Derka, both of Maryland. A mother to four daughters and son-in-laws; Shirley and Glenn Barlow of New London, Pennsylvania, Barbara and Charles Miller Sr. of Toughkenamon, Pennsylvania, Sue and Raymond Pennington of Creston, North Carolina, Linda and John Eller Sr. of Boone, North Carolina, also of two sons and daughter-in-laws; Paul and Velva Coombs of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and Lee and Eileen Coombs of Cochranville, Pennsylvania. And the grandmother to sixteen grandchildren; fifteen surviving and one deceased; thirty-two great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Viewing for Mrs. Hughes will be held at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm with Service to follow; Pastor David Benfield and Brother Anthony Roark officiating.
