Margaret Mae (South) Witherspoon

Mrs. Margaret Mae South Witherspoon, age 73 of West Jefferson, died on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Margate Health and Rehab in Jefferson. Mrs. Witherspoon was born on October 25, 1943 in Ashe County to Andrew and Belle Severt South. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darrell Witherspoon, sister, Goldie South; brothers, Wade South, Rob South, Roy South, Earl South, and Lynn South. “Nana Margaret” loved being surrounded by children and one of her greatest joys was babysitting and keeping children in her home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins, Rev. Eddie Lewis and Bill Powers. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Witherspoon is survived by: one son, David Witherspoon and wife Lisa of Jefferson; one grandson, Kerry Witherspoon and wife Andrea of West Jefferson; two step-grandchildren, Rachel Steelman of Crumpler and Aaron Pugh of Grassy Creek; one great-grandson, Keenan Witherspoon of West Jefferson; two step-great-grandchildren, Courtlyn and Cagney Reeves of Charlotte; one sister, Juanita Testerman of Lansing; one brother, Carl South of Warrensville; special niece, Linda Powers and husband Bill of Lansing; also surviving several nieces and nephews.
