Mary Elizabeth McNeill Dollar age 80 of Lansing, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Atrium Health High Point Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Dollar was born on Friday, February 16, 1945 to the late Smith and Bessie Turner McNeill. Including her parents, Mary was preceded in death by, two infant sisters, Gladys and Ruby McNeill, sister in-law, Jeannie McNeill and sister, Maude Calhoun and her husband, Bernard Calhoun.
Mary lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep love for others. A lifelong lover of books, Mary found joy in reading and delighted in sharing that joy with others. Whether collecting treasured titles or thoughtfully gifting them to friends and family.
Mary had a gift for caring, always taking the time to check on neighbors and friends with a thoughtful call or a listening ear. Her presence brought light to those around her, and she gave of herself freely and often.
She was a devoted member of Phoenix Baptist Church, where her faith was deeply rooted in family history—her grandmother was a founding member of the congregation. Mary honored that legacy with unwavering dedication. She made sure flowers adorned the church every Sunday, quietly arranging beauty for the service and then gifting those blooms afterward to bring joy to others throughout the week.
Mrs. Dollar is survived by, her husband of 60 years, Joe Dollar, daughter, Tammy Dollar of West Jefferson, brother, Fred McNeill of Crumpler; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11:00 am at Phoenix Baptist Church by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Chris Goforth. Burial will follow in the Eller Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mary’s life was a testament to quiet service, enduring faith, and heartfelt connection. She will be remembered for her warmth, her thoughtfulness, and the countless ways she brightened the lives of others.
