Mary Lou Griffin Brooks

Mary Lou Brooks age 83 of North Wilkesboro formerly of West Jefferson, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center in North Wilkesboro.  She was born to the late Oscar and Alice Griffin, January 14, 1941 and grew up in the Idlewild Community of Ashe County.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Brooks. Surviving are two sons, Jim Brooks of North Wilkesboro and Chris Brooks of Greensboro, a daughter, Cindy Baucom of Elkin. One sister, Peggy Campbell (Buford) of Warrensville; Three grandchildren, Houston Norris (Melissa), Molly Norris and Hunter Norris; three great grandchildren also survive. 

She was a longtime member of Old Fields Baptist Church. Her career of more than 51 years was spent working at Ashe Memorial Hospital in the Business Department. After retirement she was an avid book reader and also enjoyed playing Bingo and watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and ACC Basketball.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Old Fields Baptist Church in Fleetwood with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Fields Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
