Mazie R. "Mae" Cearley

Mae R. Cearley, age 101 of Statesville, formerly of Ashe County, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at her home. Mrs. Cearley was born on January 15, 1924 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Chal Royal and Fronie Cooper Royal. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Venner Miller as well as her second husband, Paul Cearley, a son, Tommy Miller, two brothers, Reed Royal and Bill Royal and one sister, Pauline Pollard. Mae lived a long and full life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering love.

Mrs. Cearley found great joy in gardening, tending to her flowers and vegetables with care and patience. She also had a passion for needlework, creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished by her loved ones for generations to come. Also in years past she enjoyed fishing, spending many peaceful hours by the water, enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Above all, Mae treasured her family, always making time to share stories, laughter, and love. She was a wonderful friend to many and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. She believed in fairness and kindness, treating everyone with the same respect and compassion. Her gentle spirit and unwavering goodness touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Mrs. Cearley is survived by one son, John Miller (Ann) of Lansing, two daughters, Judy Peterson (John) of Lansing and Sue Moore (Ron) of Statesville. Also surviving are five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 2:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Edward Shumaker. Burial will follow in the Ray Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm one hour prior to the service.
