Robert Cabot Hamilton age 74 of West Jefferson died on Saturday night, December 3, 2016 at Ashe Memorial Hospital shortly after his daughter's arrival to his bedside.
Mr. Hamilton was born in North Carolina on February 22, 1942 to Mary Lillian Pendry and George Hamilton III. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Hamilton IV.
Cabot was a tireless advocate for local business and industry, he graduated from Reynolds High School in 1960 then graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor's in political science and a master's in education. He worked in the soft drink industry as a representative of Pepsi Co then later Cadbury Schweppes, retiring in 1998. He and his wife, Teri have lived in Ashe County since 1982. Later he then became publisher of the Jefferson Post Newspaper retiring there in 2007. He has guided the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce as a board member and past president later becoming Executive Director in 2008 and serving until his death.
A gathering of friends will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by, his wife, Teri Knox Hamilton, one daughter: Deirdre Hamilton & husband Shann Winesett of Las Vegas, two grandchildren, Sullivan and McKenna Winesett. Also surviving are two sisters in-law, Adelaide "Tink" Peyton Hamilton, Rita Purvis & husband Gerry, one brother in-law, Conway Miller, two nephews, Edwin Peyton Hamilton, George Hamilton, V, three nieces, Mary Dabney Arcure, Nealy Wolf, and Megan Embler.
