James "Jim" Lyall, 63, of Crumpler, passed away late Tuesday afternoon at his home, following a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family, friends and his beloved cocker spaniel.
Born in Leslie, West VA, on April 3, 1952, Mr. Lyall was a U.S. Army veteran. Following his service, he worked many years as a drywall finisher and over-the-road truck driver and was an owner of Secondhand News Plus, a shopper publication in West Jefferson, NC.
Mr. Lyall is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Lyall, his mother, Mona Lyall Townsend, and a brother, Robert Lyall.
He is survived by the following: His wife, Carlean Lyall; his stepfather, Irwin Townsend, of Mt. Pleasant, PA; a daughter, Angelia Shepherd (and husband, Mark) of Warrensville, NC; two step-sons, Baron Cooper and wife, Vikki, of West Jefferson, and Matthew Stiddam, also of West Jefferson; a brother, Richard Lee Lyall of Rising Sun, MD; six sisters, Elizabeth McDermott and husband, Michael, of Bear, DE, Norma Prater and husband, Kenneth, of Rockwell, NC; Jo Mallonee and husband, David, of Elkton, MD, Brenda Geesaman and husband, Brian, of Mt. Pleasant, PA;.Patti Carnaroli and husband, Rob, of Elkton, MD; and Missy Beers, of Elkton. Two grandchildren, Een Shepherd and Olivia Cooper also survive.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at Mt. Jefferson Baptist Church, 1957 US Hwy. 221, in Jefferson. Visitation will begin at 11 am, followed by a funeral service at noon.The family will be meeting at the home of Connie Roark, in Crumpler.
