Mr. Onley H. Burgess age 89, of Jefferson, NC died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Burgess was born June 21, 1927 in Ashe County to Heggie and Mary Caudill Burgess. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Burgess was a member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Mr. Burgess retired as supervisor of transportation for Ashe County Schools. He was also past chief of Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department. His hobbies included baseball, fishing, playing horseshoes and coaching the Ashe Central Braves little league baseball team. He loved Christmas time and being on his farm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Doug Halsey and Rev. Cory Halsey. Burial will follow in Calloway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Badger Funeral Home.
Mr. Burgess is survived by: His Wife, Louise Burgess, Son, Gregory Keith Burgess and wife Joanne of Laurel Springs, Daughter, Carol Burgess Griffith and husband Archie of Charlotte, Brother, Connie Carlyle Burgess and wife Kathy of Trinity also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
