Mr. Rufus Bradshaw Myers age 80, of West Jefferson, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Dr. Edward J. Miller wing of Margate Health and Rehab Center. Rufus followed his wife Mikayo, at whose side he had stayed until the conclusion of her long term illness on February 13th.
Rufus was born February 16, 1936 in Wilkes County. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in 1953 and The University of Georgia in 1958 where he attained a Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture. He was the son of Riley Bradshaw Myers, a barber at the former City Barbershop and Lola Landreth Myers, a teacher at West Jefferson School. Rufus traveled extensively in his early career before retiring to West Jefferson in the 80's to care for his mother. He was well regarded for his publication of a popular history of Western North Carolina which was sold locally.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Mr. Myers is survived by: Son, Roman Bradshaw Myers of Palo Alto, CA, cousins, Gerald and Clinton McGlamery and their children and Jack Osborne who was like a brother to him.
