Mrs. Betsy Dollar Reeves age 69, of Jefferson, NC died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Betsy was born on March 15, 1946 in Baldwin, Ashe County, North Carolina, one of three children to Theodore Worth and Vea Johnson Dollar. Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Cara Sue Gentry.
Betsy was a graduate of Beaver Creek High School. After high school, Betsy worked at the Skyland Post for the late Mrs. Stella Anderson. She married Ralph Reeves in 1964 and had two daughters, Melanie and Melissa. Betsy began her work for the county in 1968 as elections director, serving until 1972. In 1977 she became assistant to the director of Ashe County Veterans Services and began her career-long commitment to Ashe County veterans. For her 37 years of service and dedication, Betsy was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, presented by the Governor to honor persons who have a proven record of service to the State of North Carolina. Betsy was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, served on the Board of Directors for the Museum of Ashe County History, member of the Order of Eastern Star, served on the Board of Directors of Ashe County ADAP since it was founded, enjoyed cooking and baking, was an avid reader (always with a stack of books on the bedside table), loved to travel, shopping, crochet and needlework, holidays and celebrations with her family. Betsy was simply overjoyed when she became a grandmother in 2014. But, above all, Betsy was dedicated to, proud of, and selflessly loved her family. Betsy will be remembered for her beauty and spark of life that touched the heart of everyone she knew and loved.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Jefferson United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Miller. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reeves is survived by: Husband, Ralph Reeves, 2 Daughters, Melanie Reeves (Milan) Miller of Nashville, TN and Melissa Reeves (Scott) Cowie of Greensboro, NC, Brother, John (Janice) Dollar of Hickory, NC, Grandchild, Emma Rose Cowie also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
