Mrs. Mable Jean Taylor, age 78, of West Jefferson, NC, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at her home. Born May 19, 1936, in Ashe County to Robert and Virgie Bare Bower, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James "Fred" Taylor, her parents, son James Michael Taylor, infant daughter Pamela Lynn Taylor, and sister Evelyn McGill. She was of the Baptist faith.
Soon after retiring from United Chemi-Con in 1995 after 35 years of service, Mable assumed the role of primary caregiver to her parents for an uninterrupted period of nine years. A loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother, she was known for her immaculately kept home and lawn and for her wonderfully resonant laugh. She was possessed with an uncommon degree of patience and empathy for the troubled and downtrodden members of society and will be deeply missed by those who were privileged to call her their friend. Above all else, Mable quietly and modestly lived her life with a deep sense of duty.
She is survived by her daughter Katy Taylor of Jefferson, sisters Betty (Ronnie) Goodman of West Jefferson and Sandy Eldreth of Jefferson, brothers Bobby (Irene) Bower and John (Lorraine) Bower all of Jefferson, grandson Joshua Andrew Taylor of the home, special friend Helen Kelley of Crumpler, and several nieces and nephews.
Per her request, visitation was in the home with private interment at Scott-Blevins Cemetery to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ashe Services for Aging, 180 Chattyrob Lane, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
Badger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
