It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sara Everleigh Carrowon on September 10, 2014. Sara went to be with the Lord during the early morning hours. She is survived by her husband Tom of 59 years, three daughters - Kathy from Banner Elk, NC, Lynn and her husband, Brian from Perth, Australia, and Beth and her husband, Mark from Thomasville, NC, four grandchildren - Katie Pickens, Eli Boone, Nicole and Cory Graves and three great-grandchildren - Ava, Emma and Connor Pickens. Also surviving Sara is her sister Virginia Ashley, brothers, Carl Everleigh Jr. and Robert Everleigh and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved so much. She was predeceased by her parents Carl and Elizabeth Everleigh and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Apple, Doris Taylor and her brother Donald Everleigh.
Originally from Lumberton, NC, Sara and her husband Tom decided to retire to the mountains where they resided many years in Ashe County, NC. She loved her neighbors, her bridge club, her flowers, and she fully enjoyed all the beautiful sights and wonders of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She loved all seasons here, even the winter with the snow. She would put up her card table and work her jigsaw puzzles while it snowed. She would also keep warm crocheting the next blanket for many family members and friends who enjoy the blankets today and will remember her with love with each use.
Sara loved her family with all her heart, and always enjoyed family gatherings. Thanksgiving was always a grand gathering of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins near and far. Any other excuse for a gathering was welcome because she loved being around her family, loved catching up on the comings and goings, being that sounding board we needed, and providing love and guidance for us.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20th, 2014 at 11am at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 2817 Abbotts Creek Church Rd, High Point, NC 27265. Interment will be at a later date. We ask that in lieu of flowers, gifts be sent in Sara's name to Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church to benefit the Youth or Operation Christmas Child.
