Mrs. Sharon Neaves Thompson

Sharon Neaves Thompson, age 70, of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday morning, March 5th, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after a recent illness. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was born in Jefferson to Roscoe and Winnie Phipps Neaves on February 7, 1947. She was one of 12 children and the first of her family to be born in the old hospital in Jefferson. On June 15th, 1968, she married Robert "Bob" Thompson and entered into a marriage that spanned almost 49 years. Unto this union was born one daughter, Jennifer. They lived in a variety of places due to work during the early years of their marriage: Cookeville, TN, Wilkesboro, NC, and Hickory, NC, before coming back to Ashe County in 1984, settling in Jefferson.

Sharon was an honors graduate of Ashe Central High School. She worked at Sprague Electric in Lansing for a period of time until her marriage, then worked in shipment tracking and as an executive secretary until their birth of their daughter. Sharon then became a homemaker, a job that she truly loved. She also worked seasonally for a few years at Ashe County Cheese in West Jefferson. She enjoyed babysitting a special niece, Heather Neaves Casey, as a child, and later her own grandchildren, Jacob and Noah Dollar.

Sharon enjoyed history and family genealogy, music and singing, and loved to read. She liked butterflies and also collected bells. She and Bob liked to travel and she had many souvenir bells from these trips. She loved being with her family and had a generous heart. She was a good cook and her chocolate gravy, fried potatoes, and her mother's special cookie recipe will be missed.

Sharon made a profession of faith in Jesus as a teenager and was a lifelong member of Greene's Chapel Baptist Church in Lansing. She was often more of a behind the scenes participant in church functions, but was faithful. She had most recently served as church clerk.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, also known as Bob; her daughter Jennifer and her husband Chris Dollar of Lansing; 2 grandchildren, Jacob Dollar and Noah Dollar; 4 brothers Onis Neaves of Glendale Springs, Lanny Neaves of Franklinville, Dale Neaves of Glendale Springs, and Claude Neaves of Jefferson; 1 sister, Karen Neaves Campbell, of West Jefferson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters Grace Neaves Goodman, Lenna Kay Neaves Hamby, Juanita Neaves Osborne, and infant twin sisters, Jean and Joan Neaves, one brother Wayne Neaves.

She will be greatly missed by her family but we take comfort in knowing she is in Heaven with Jesus Christ, her Savior and family and friends who have gone on before.

A receiving of friends will be held Tuesday, March 7th from 6-8 pm at Badger Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 8th, at 11 am at Greene's Chapel Baptist Church in Lansing, with burial to follow in the Howell Hill Community Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Howell Hill Community Cemetery Fund c/o Jerry Brooks, 2946 N. Fork New River Rd, Lansing, NC 28643.

Badger Funeral Home was entrusted with Mrs. Thompson's arrangements.
