Mr. Theodore "Ted" Joseph Kozel, of Jefferson, NC died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Kozel was born in Connellsville, PA to Charles Jacob and Mary Wisnewski Kozel. Mr. Kozel was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Thomas Kozel, who was killed in 1944 in Normandy, France, Charles Kozel, and sister, Dorothy Kozel. Mr. Kozel was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Connellsville, PA . After moving to Ashe County he became a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jefferson, NC where he was involved with the men's club. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and gardening. Mr. Kozel was a member of the 82nd Airborne 505 stationed at Fort Bragg and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church by Father James Stuhrenberg. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the mass. Inurnment will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA with military honors.
Mr. Kozel is survived by: his wife, Irene Kozel, sister, Maryrose Uszko of Cleveland, OH, brother, Patrick (Shirley) Kozel of South Connellsville, PA, brother, John David (Mary) Kozel of Mount Pleasant, PA, brother in-law, Larry (Beverly) Cagle of West End, NC, brother in-law, Robert (Ann) Mishoe of Florence, SC, brother in-law, Michael (Alice) Crissman of Sanford, NC; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
