Nell Cross Baldwin age 101 of West Jefferson passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Baldwin was born September 23, 1919 in Fairfax, VA to the late William Wallace Cross and Eunice Madeline Allder Cross. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed Lincoln Baldwin, sons, Harold and Edward Baldwin, grandchildren, Sandra Poe and Daniel Stevens, three brothers and one sister. She moved to North Carolina in 1938 and lived there most of her life. She loved her family, grandchildren and church family. Mrs. Baldwin loved the Lord and was a member of Tuckerdale Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flowers gardens and quilting. Nell liked to can vegetables and make jam and jelly. Mrs. Baldwin enjoyed spending time with her the ladies of the church, going out to eat and traveling. She loved to have company and writing and receiving letters. Nell worked in nursing homes in Manassas, VA and Greensboro, NC. She loved helping and taking care of people.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Julian Owen and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. Larry Shepherd. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Baldwin is survived by: one son: Wayne Baldwin of Lansing, six daughters, Jean Key of Lansing, Mildred Blevins (Sherman) of Greensboro, Linda Stevens of Brown Summit, Darlene Griffitts of Lansing, Lois Ham (Kenny) of West Jefferson and Beverly Poe (Edward) of Todd, grandchildren, William Baldwin, Lisa Baldwin Reed, Karen Key Miller, Jeff and Mitchell Key, Bobby, Mike, Susan and Kim Baldwin, John Baldwin, Kelly Baldwin Ashley, John Blevins, Mary McMillian, Tammy Cassell, Robin and Jim Stevens, Eugene Barker, Crystal Walker and James Poe, great-grandchildren, Mason and Sawyer Baldwin, Sara and Suzi McNeil, Alicia and Kristen Miller, Kaley, Morgan, Meredyth and Holden Key, Megan Baldwin, Chase and Coleman Baldwin, Chloe and Cody Ashley, Adrianne Blevins, Chance Cassell, Bryce and Braden McMillian, Tony Rodriquez, Dylan and Drew Stevens, Bailey Barker, Sami Barker Hooper, Emma and Brooklyn Poe, Caleb and Connor Walker and Michael Poe. 8 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, special friend Kathleen Keaton of Lansing and caregiver, Vanessa Dishman also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
