Nina Houck Gentry, age 89 of Lexington, NC, formerly of West Jefferson, NC died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 after several years of declining health.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, Jan. 7th at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of a daughter, Diane Goss. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry was born August 18, 1916 to Arthur Jacob and Myrtle Edwards Houck. She was a resident of Ashe County before moving to Lexington, NC in 1991. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, former state Senator Todd H. Gentry, six brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr. Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 which serves 49 counties including Ashe, Davidson and Forsyth or to the charity of the donors choice.

She is survived by:

Two daughters: Sara "Sammie" Hodges and husband, John Hodges III of Lexington, NC and Diane Goss of West Jefferson, NC

One son: Tony Gentry of Portland, OR

Nine grandchildren: John Hodges IV and Randall Goss of West Jefferson, Elizabeth Kepley of Lexington; Carmen and Candace Goss of Winston-Salem; Caroline Miller and Robert Goss of Greenville, SC; Tony Gentry of Richmond, VA and Todd Gentry II of Portland, OR

Sister: Lillis Gentry of West Jefferson, NC
