View this Videotribute Otho Glendal Lane, better known as Glen, age 85, of West Jefferson, NC died Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. Mr. Lane was born March 9, 1922 in Anson, Texas to the late Byron Walter and Ola B. Thompson Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Lee Horton Lane, and a sister, Oneta Fisher. Mr. Lane worked and was part owner in a hardware store in Texas in his early life. He went on to serve in the Army Air Corps in WWII. After the war, he worked for many years with McDonald- Douglas, which is now part of Boeing, as an engineer. He enjoyed golf, yard work, traveling, gospel music, and most of all, his family. He was also a member of the Optimist Club. Mr. Lane was an active member of First Baptist Church in West Jefferson, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 21, 2007, at 4:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson by Rev. Ken Morris. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn. Mr. Lane is survived by: His wife: Nettie Kean Lane 3 daughters: Susan Bard and husband Michael of Crumpler, NC, Janice Snider and husband Gary of Jamestown, NC, and Glenda Skinner and husband Max of Randalman, NC. 2 stepsons: Warren Kean of Lake Norman, NC, and Christopher Kean of Florida. 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
