Patricia Ann Buffington Bethel

Patricia Ann Buffington Bethel, age 94 of West Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Margate Health and Rehab Center in Ashe County, NC. She was born in Snyder County, PA, on July 25, 1929 to the late Lester Clayton and Carrie Edna Krider Buffington. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Wallace and husband, Lemuel, they were of Riverside, PA.

Throughout her life, Patricia exemplified unwavering love and devotion towards her family. She was not just a loving mother but a pillar of strength who dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her loved ones. Her favorite season of life was when her children were young, and she found immense joy in nurturing their interests and supporting them in every endeavor.

Pat's presence radiated joy and tranquility to those around her. Her community in Harrisburg, PA, where she resided for many years, knew her as a passionate member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. An accomplished pianist with a classic touch, she shared her musical talents with others and brought solace through her melodies.

Professionally, Patricia excelled as an insurance claim adjuster, showcasing diligence and efficiency in all her endeavors. Outside of work, swimming brought her immense pleasure and serenity. Yet above all these roles and hobbies she embraced, being a mother remained closest to her heart.

In the later years of her life, Patricia relocated to Ashe County, where she found peace and contentment in the serene surroundings for the past four years.

Pat is survived by her children including one son, Lt. Col. David A. Bethel USMC Ret. of Maryland, two daughters, Annie Rheaume of Vermont and Julie McGunegle of West Jefferson.  Seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren as well as one niece and one nephew also survive.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wednesday Club of Harrisburg, PA.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Margate for the compassionate care they gave to their mother during her time there.

Patricia Ann Buffington Bethel leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will forever be cherished by her surviving family: children, grandchildren, and friends who were touched by her gentle spirit. While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable and sweet lady, we take solace in knowing that Patricia's memory will continue to live on in our hearts.
