Patricia "Pat" Gobble, 82, died on December 15, 2014, due to complications from cancer at her daughter's home in Minden, LA. She passed quietly in her sleep with her family near. The daughter of Neil Patrick Gordon and Ellen Mary Gordon of Belfast, Northern Ireland, loving wife of William "Bill" Gobble of Salisbury, NC, she is survived by her daughter Mary and her husband Braxton "Bragg" Stuckey, of Minden, LA, son James "Jamie" and his wife Jennifer Sanchez Goebel, of Arlington, MA, and sister-in-law, Margaret Gordon, of Bloxham, England. She is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. Born in 1932, the youngest of three children, Pat was sent to live with her aunt and uncle in the country during World War II, and then moved to London with her sister, Nuala, after the war. Pat worked in a candy factory and modeled fur coats until she met an American airman stationed in England. They married in 1960, and lived in England and Germany before returning to the U.S. with their son, Jamie. After Bill retired from the Air Force, they settled in Cary, North Carolina and worked in real estate. Pat was honored with the Governor's Volunteer Service Award for her many years of volunteer work with the American Red Cross. Pat and Bill "retired" again to Crumpler, North Carolina, where they ran Historic Healing Springs, offering rustic cabins and a peaceful setting to people from all over the U.S. An active and beloved member of the West Jefferson community, Pat attended Nathan's Creek United Methodist Church, worked in the Ashe Outreach Community Meals, volunteered at Ashe Memorial Hospital, and was an active member of the Nathan's Creek ECA Extension & Community Association. Pat later moved to The Waterford in Shreveport, LA, where she enjoyed being a part of their lively social community. There she was a proud member of the Beanbag Baseball team, enjoying lively games with other senior living centers -- especially with the residents at the War Veterans' Home. Her cheerfulness, optimism, forthright observations, and delicious poppyseed cake will be missed by all.
