Mrs. Rosa Pauline Neaves Johnson widow of Lonnie Fred Johnson passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at Ashe Memorial Hospital with her family at her bedside. She was born in Ashe County on December 11, 1922 to the late Lester & Ettie Hamm Neaves. Mrs. Johnson was a long time member of Phoenix Baptist Church and worked many years for the Ashe County School System at Lansing School. Pauline was the glue that held the family together, a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She was renowned for her cooking skills and when asked for recipes she couldn't necessarily tell you the exact amount of each ingredient, she used a pinch here and a dab there method. You never left her home without eating whether you were hungry or not. She loved to garden and had the greenest thumb ever. When someone's house plants needed a little tender loving care, leave them with Pauline and they would come back more beautiful than ever. Even though she suffered with rheumatoid arthritis most of her adult life she never complained. She was truly a positive influence on the lives she touched. She was a very special lady who always had a smile on her face. She was loved very much and will be deeply missed by all! Left to cherish her memory are a daughter & son in-law, Wanda and Durwin Elliott of Sheridan, WY, her daughter in-law, Edna Mae Johnson of Lansing, one brother, Scott Neaves of Crumpler, NC, two sisters, Maxine Hart of Laurel Springs, NC and Myrle Miller of Millers Creek, NC, five grandchildren, Bobby, Fred and Johnny Johnson all of Lansing, Celena Elliott Watson of Mt. Airy, NC and Heather Elliott Rayle of Jamestown, NC, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a number of nieces & nephews also survive. Preceding her in death were her son Lonnie Maynard Johnson, 4 brothers, Glenn, Floyd, Ford & Harold Neaves and one sister Lorene Hamby. The family will receive friends from 6:00 -8:00 Saturday, Sept. 27th at Badger Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Phoenix Baptist Church. Officiating at the service will be her grandson Rev. Johnny Johnson and her pastor Rev. Jeff Dollar. Burial will follow in the Howell Hill Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to: Phoenix Baptist Church, PO Box 159, Warrensville, NC 28693. A special thanks to her many friends and neighbors for all the love, support and prayers given to her and the family during the past few months.
