Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 18, 1940, Penelope Sue (Penny) Hession passed away on August 24, 2023. She leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Patrick, her sister Sherry Lynn Henderson, and three children, Michael Joseph Parsons (Lucy), Anne Marie Stitt (Chuck), and Susanne Catherine Zuercher (Brian), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Penny used her whole brain to the fullest. Her degree areas were Chemistry and Math majors and Biology minor, but she was also an artist and published writer of 14 novels, available at www.lulu.com. She taught Algebra for 25 years in various Community Colleges. She was a homebound teacher for 10 years and an alternate classroom teacher for one year. Penny was a very professional, understanding, and loving teacher, well beloved by all her students. As a last act of giving, she donated her body to Wake Forest School of Medicine.
Penny ministered with her husband Patrick for over 48 years. She touched many across denominations with her wisdom and loving heart. She would like to be remembered as serious when necessary but fun-loving and full of joy, living each day for her Lord. Her great love for God was evident to all she met. Her novels relate stories of people who strove to live out their lives in a Godly way in spite of the struggles of day to day life. Her charitable spirit will continue to make a difference in the lives of many.
Funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Francis of Assasi Catholic Church by Father Cory Catron. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In memory, contributions can be made to Family to Families Ministry, 410 McConnell St., Apt 206, Jefferson, NC or the American Red Cross.
