Ray Viers

Ray Viers age 88 of Laurel Springs, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care and Rehabilitation Facility surrounded by his beloved family.  Mr. Viers was born November 30, 1933 in Ashe County to the late Virgie McGrady and Edgar Viers.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Huffman Viers, three brothers, Rex, Eugene, and Junior, three sisters, Ruth, Grace, and Nadine, and one daughter-in-law, Linda Viers. Ray was a Christmas Tree farmer here in Ashe County. Some of his favorite things in life were attending church, playing his guitar, and going to the farmer’s market. Mr. Viers never met a stranger and never missed out on an opportunity to witness to people and share the Love of Christ.

Mr. Viers is survived by, three sons, Johnny Viers (Debbie) of Laurel Springs, David Viers of Pigeon Forge, TN and Michael Viers (Diane) of West Jefferson, three daughters, Debbie Cozart (Donny) of Crumpler, Jennifer Calhoun (Freddie) of Crumpler and Sandy Hamm (Tim) of Lansing, one twin-sister, Faye Church of Laurel Springs, one brother, J.E. Viers (Laura) of Laurel Springs, special friend, Martha Privette and his faithful dog, Lonely. 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 3:00pm at the Bare Cemetery by Pastor Tim Hamm and Rev. Wayne Jones.
