Ray May, better known as “Donnie”, age 73 of Lansing, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at his home. Mr. May was born on November 1, 1949 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Paul and Ossie Carpenter May. In addition to his parents Donnie was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Taylor, Grace Baldwin, Ruby Young, Hazel Surber, Mary Buchanan and Martha Eller, and brother, Lee May.
Mr. May’s true hobby was woodworking, Donnie spent countless hours in his workshop. His creations showcased his talent and attention to detail and will forever stand as a testament to his passion and skill. Beyond his workshop, Donnie found solace and joy in working outdoors, mowing, weed eating and tending to his lawn. He was a member of Warrensville Baptist Church, his dedication to his faith was unwavering, and Donnie found great fulfillment in his involvement with his church family. Donnie loved his family, doted on his three grandsons and cherished every moment spent with them. He especially took great pride in having them in his woodworking shop. Donnie will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Donna May, son, Curtis May (Elaine) of West Jefferson, daughter, Amy May (Sam) of Deep Gap and three grandsons, Dylan, Hunter and Sammy. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 12:00pm at Warrensville Baptist Church by Rev. Jackie Stone. Burial will follow in the Haw Orchard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00pm one hour prior to the service at the church.
