R.C. Combs, a man of remarkable traits and unwavering faith, has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the age 75. Mr. Combs was born in Ashe County on Sunday, September 14, 1947 in Ashe County to the late Jack and Lucy Johnson Combs. Including his parents he was preceded in death by: brothers, Carl and Ray Dean Combs, and sister, Virginia Hoosier.
With a warm smile and a compassionate heart, he dedicated his life to caring for others and lending a helping hand to those in need.
A devoted family man, R.C. cherished spending time with his grandsons, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come. His love for gardening allowed him to witness the beauty of nature firsthand, and his adventurous spirit led him on countless travels, where he delighted in exploring new places.
Known for his friendly and outgoing nature, R.C. was a social butterfly who found joy in connecting with people from all walks of life. His genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued in his presence.
Above all, R.C. held a deep and abiding love for the Lord. His faith was a guiding light that inspired him to lead a life of kindness, compassion, and service to others.
Mr. Combs is survived by: his wife, Debbie Sue Medley Combs, three daughters, Amy Combs, Ann Alexandra, and Tina Anderson all of Wilkesboro, one step-daughter, Natasha Portilla of Jefferson, mother in-law, Lola Medley of Jefferson, son in-law, Rufino Portilla of Jefferson, two special grandsons, Adrian Portilla and Braxton Portilla of Jefferson, one brother, James Combs of Jefferson, four sisters, Faye Jones, Polly Medley, Stella Williams, and Joann Medley all of Boomer, sister in-law, Cherie (Stuart) Darden of Myrtle Beach, SC two brothers in-law, Darrell Medley of Jefferson, Joey Medley of Virginia; Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Midway Baptist Church by Pastor Steve Leashomb. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
The family would like give their most sincere appreciation to Medi Home Health and Hospice, Badger Funeral Home and Pastor Steve Leashomb for their help, support and prayers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to the family, c/o Badger Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
