Rev. Rodger Dail Carpenter, Sr., age 60, of Creston, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24th at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Elder Carpenter was born November 3, 1949 to Ruth Richardson Carpenter and General Grant Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife - Kathy Eastridge Carpenter; two sisters - Jeannette Miller and Ruby Roland; two brothers - Dennis and Denver Carpenter. Elder Carpenter is survived by: his wife - Sheila Carpenter; two sons - Roger Carpenter, Jr. of Creston, NC and Christopher Carpenter and fiance Nikki of Creston, NC; two daughters - Angela Carpenter Edgell and husband Adam of West Virginia and Michelle Carpenter of Creston; two step-daughters - Billie Isaacs of Michigan and Vanessa Isaacs of Creston, NC; two sisters - Carol Dixon and husband Charles of Denton, NC and Ima Jean Payne and husband Paul of Mountain City, TN; two brothers - Darrell Carpenter and wife Elaine of Elkton, MD and Thomas Carpenter and wife Cindy of Creston. Also surviving are five grandchildren - Samantha, Kody, Riley, and Haylie Carpenter, Ryen Jackson; one great-grandchild - Autumn Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews. Elder Carpenter gave his life to God in the early 1970s and he touched the lives of many with his preachings. He was a member of the Little River Regular Baptist Association as well as the Mountain Union Baptist Association. He loved nothing more than his God and his family. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country proudly in Korea and various other places. He worked at Blowing Rock Hospital for 23 years and during that time he devoted his time to bring a smile to the faces of all the patients he came in contact with. He loved to make people laugh; whether it was with silly jokes or harmless pranks, he always knew how to liven up a room. He loved to hunt, fish, play horseshoes, and spend time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 8:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Denton Hart, Rev. Bluford Eldreth, and Rev. Rhonda Rash. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn. Entombment will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer with military rites.
