Rev. Dean Shepherd

Rev. William Dean Shepherd age 90, of Crumpler, NC, formerly of the Laurel Springs community, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Rev. Shepherd was born March 8, 1926 in Ashe County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Shepherd; first wife, Retha Hart Shepherd; son, Danny Shepherd; brothers - Chester, Bruce, and Max Shepherd, sisters - Sue Taylor, Agnes Johnson, and Mary Hall.
He was saved April 29, 1961, licensed as a minister in May, 1964 and was ordained July 3, 1965. Rev. Shepherd had formerly pastored several churches in Ashe County and currently served as pastor for New Bethel and Beech Creek Baptist Churches. He had a strong faith, loved going to church, and spending time with his family. He spent many hours working on the farm and raising cattle. Although he will be greatly missed, he is now celebrating the most wonderful time of his life being joined with his heavenly Father. His lifelong passion has now been accomplished and fulfilled.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lundy Finley, Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Joey McClure. Burial will follow in Transou United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, May 6, 2016 at Badger Funeral Home.
Rev. Shepherd is survived by: wife, Maggie Shepherd, two daughters, Judy Shepherd of Memphis, TN, Beth Belote and husband Robbie of North Wilkesboro, step-daughter, Cindy Bacon and husband Joe of West Chester, PA; grandchildren - Scott Belote of Davidson, Lindsey Shore and husband Justin of Mooresville; 4 step-grandchildren - Doug Shatley and wife Tonya of Middletown, DE, Denise Truslow and husband Junior of Nottingham, Pa, Erica Bacon of Seattle, WA, Brittany Anderson and husband Patrick of Bloomsburg, PA; Sister, Margie Mitchell of Sparta. Also surviving are 8 step-great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church, c/o Virginia Hart, 4368 Big Horse Creek Road, Lansing, NC 28643.
