Rev. Ray Russell Ham, 84, of West Jefferson, the Buffalo Community, died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at his home. Rev. Ham was born in Ashe County on March 16, 1922 to Lester and Ressie P. Ham. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. Rev. Ham was a well-love minister of the Gospel and preached in many local churches. He served as pastor to Calvary Baptist Church and Grassy Creek Baptist Church. He will be long remembered as a true soldier of the faith whose unwavering firm stand has earned him a "legacy of impeccable character and great strength."

Funeral services for Rev. Ham will be conducted on Tuesday at 3:00 PM at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dean Watson, Rev. Joey McClure, and the Rev. David Brown. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 prior to the service on Tuesday.
Rev. Ham is survived by his wife of 62 years: Mrs. Grace Shepherd Ham of the home; two daughters: Ms. Juanita Main of Jefferson and Ms. Luvenia Moretz of Lincolnton, NC; one son: Mr. Russell Ham of West Jefferson: five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
