Rev. Terry Dean Mahaffey

Reverend Terry Dean Mahaffey, age 66, of Lansing took his heavenly flight home on November 9, 2020. He was born on August 23, 1954, to Worth and Mary Belle Mahaffey.

Terry was a dedicated, hard worker and enjoyed helping others, no matter what he had to do. He was well-educated and very knowledgeable in many ways, including being a Bible scholar, historian, and expert in genealogy. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren, singing, visiting neighbors, working in flowers, and anything dealing with technology. He worked at Ashe County Transportation.

He will be dearly missed. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Worth and Mary Belle Blevins Mahaffey ; brother, Ricky Mahaffey; nephew, Jason Mahaffey; parents-in-law, Grover and Kathleen Burchette; and Granny (Gladys Roland).

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynda Burchette Mahaffey; son, Nathan Mahaffey (wife Brooke) of Whitetop, VA; brother, Jerry Mahaffey of Hayes, NC; sisters Virginia Miller of Lansing and June Bowers of Crumpler; grandsons, Mason Colt, Keegan Gage and Lincoln Gunner Mahaffey; brothers-in-love Steve Burchette (wife Linda) of Marion, VA, Carl Burchette (wife Anna) of Warrensville, Jeff Burchette (wife Jayna) of Jefferson, and Mark Burchette (wife Kay) of Moravian Falls; sister-in-love, Louise Burchette Stout of West Jefferson; and special furry critter, Spyder. He is also survived by nieces Evelyn Miller, Cassie Hendren, Melissa Greene, Michelle Bowers and Sydnee Burchette; nephews Kevin Burchette, Stephen Burchette, Bryan Burchette, Aaron Burchette, Robert Bowers, Adam Harmon, and Dereck Burchette; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 1, 2020 in the Roland Miller Cemetery. Reverend Darrell Graybeal, Derrick McClure and Jim Francis will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Bowers, Derek Burchette, Bryan Burchette, Adam Harmon, Stephen Burchette, Kevin Burchette, and Aaron Burchette. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Burchette, Carl Burchette, Jeff Burchette, Mark Burchette, Jerry Mahaffey.

The family requests that masks be worn at the service and please practice social distancing.
