Richard Clyde Jones, age 92 of Hwy. 88 West, Warrensville, NC passed away at his home Monday, June 13. Mr. Jones was born January 26, 1913 to the late Charles and Maggie Jones of Triplett (Deep Gap), North Carolina. He was a carpenter by trade and retired after 23 years from Thomasville Furniture in August of 1983. In addition to his parents, his wife Pauline Mattie Wyatt Jones preceded him in death.
A veteran of World War II, he was an extremely patriotic man and a lover of animals-especially his cat Sam. He possessed a love for the mountains of Ashe County and the New River and a special love for all who visited him and shared a "talk."
A service to celebrate and remember his life will be held Thursday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service Thursday afternoon. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Ashe County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1776, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Tina Jones of Nashville, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tim Whitener of Hickory, NC and a daughter, Betty Wiles of Kernersville, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Helen Triplett of Deep Gap, NC. He will be remembered by two special granddaughters, Amy Sturgill of Atlanta, GA and Mary Clare Jones of Nashville, TN. Also surviving are a special caregiver, Brenda Triplett, and many, many friends who looked forward to a wave or a "throw of the hand" as they passed his home.
