Richard Bruce Mendrick, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Born on January 2, 1944 in Hacketstown, New Jersey to the late Walter Jerasal and Catherine Ellen Batson Mendrick. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by John Roman. Richard's life was filled with joy, adventure, and a passion for various activities that brought happiness to both himself and those around him.

Richard had a deep love for sports and enjoyed participating in bowling and basketball. He was also an avid snowmobiler, exploring the winter wonderland on his snowmobile brought him immense joy and created cherished memories. As a skilled builder by, Richard's hands crafted not just structures, but also lasting connections with others. Cars were never just a mode of transportation for Richard; they were a source of fascination and admiration. Among Richard's varied interests, there was one legendary icon that held a special place in his heart—Elvis Presley. His love for adventure and diverse interests made him a remarkable individual, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Judy Mendrick daughters, Darlene Stanley and husband Darrell and Cheryl Roman and husband Gary both of Cape Coral, FL, step-daughter, Christina Creado and husband Gavin of New Hyde Park, NY, sister, Nancy Anderson of FL, two brothers, Walter Mendrick of Rochester, NY and Donald Mendrick of Tallahassee, FL, eight grandchildren and ten nieces and nephews, who will forever hold him in their hearts. Richard's kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and his memory will be kept alive by those who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 6:00-8:00pm at Badger Funeral Home in West Jefferson, North Carolina.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Red Cross in Richard's honor.
