Rickey Allen Roop

Rickey Allen Roop, age 63 of Creston, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at his home.  Mr. Roop was born March 18, 1959 in Ashe County to Reggie and Maxine Roop.  He was preceded in death by his father, daughter, Holly Roop and father-in-law, Joe Stephens. Rickey loved spending time with his granddaughters, riding around the Peak with JoEvelyn, fishing and cooking for his family and friends.  He was an avid sports fan and his favorite sports teams were the Cowboys, Tarheels and Braves.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, May 20, 2022 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Dwight Shepherd.  Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn. Austin Mikeal, Mike Johnson, Randy Roland, Eddie Stephens, Bob Lipford and Timmy Stephens will serve as pallbearers.   Terry “Buck” Paisley, Tony “Tobe” Jones and Bennett Winkler will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Roop is survived by, his wife, Jo Evelyn Stephens Roop, one son, Heath Roop (Chelsea) of Creston, his mother, Maxine Roop of Lansing, granddaughters, Layla, Bellamy and Emerson Roop and mother-in-law Joyce Stephens.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the JoAnn Poe Cancer Center, 200 Hospital Ave., Jefferson, NC 28640.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Ashe Oncology nurses and Dr. Gray for the excellent care Rickey received.
