Mrs. Rita Rose (Hanczuk) Skrobialowski, age 88, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 9, 2022. She lived in Laurel Springs for over 30 years before moving to Leland, NC, to live with her son.
Rita was born March 15, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Louis and Dorothy (Glomb) Hanczuk where she was raised until marrying the love her life, the now deceased Stanley C. Skrobialowski Sr.
She is survived by her five children, son Daniel (Brenda), daughter Betty (Ron, deceased), son Stanley Jr., daughter Patricia (Brian), and daughter Sophie (James), her sister Ursula (Hanczuk) Theilman. She was a proud Babci to her grandchildren, Adam, Kerri (deceased), Sophie, Jordan, Sarah, Katie, and Zoe, many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley (Clifford), her sister Hedwig (Hanczuk) Nauer, and her granddaughter Kerri Spaulding. Special recognition to Tanya Nixon, her aide, who provided loving care and companionship.
For 30 years, Rita was a military wife, mother, and office administrator. Upon Stanley’s retirement from the U.S. Marines Corps the couple settled down near Jefferson where Rita worked as a para-legal until she finally retired. Rita was a very active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, playing the organ and serving as Eucharistic Minister. She was an active member in several local associations, to include the Ashe County Piecemakers Quilt Guild, the Crumbee's Quilt Group, Ashe County New Beginings, and the Ashe County Doll Makers. She enjoyed a variety of other activities such as sketching, painting, gardening, and cooking. Rita was always quick to laugh and loved spending time with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel in Jefferson, NC.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jefferson, NC. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
