Robert Klaus
December 2, 1943 - January 1, 2024
Robert Allen Klaus, a man of unwavering dedication and passion for both his country and the natural world, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023 at Forest Ridge Assisted Living at 80 years old. Robert was born on December 2, 1943, in Yoakum, Texas, to the late George and Lilly Petering Klaus.
Robert's life was a testament to his commitment to serving the nation. He bravely served as a captain in the United States Army during the tumultuous period of the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. His valor and dedication during those challenging times were a reflection of his profound sense of duty and honor.
Following his military service, Robert embarked on a distinguished career spanning 35 years as an engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad, later becoming the Union Pacific Railroad.
Beyond his professional life, Robert found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. He was a man deeply connected to the outdoors. His love for gardening was evident in his flourishing vegetable patches, tended with care and yielding the fruits of his labor. Robert's passion extended to winemaking, a craft he embraced with enthusiasm. His fruit trees also stood as a testament to his nurturing spirit and love for the land.
Mr. Klaus is survived by his son, Will Klaus (Sandy) of Tampa, FL, granddaughter, Lauren Klaus, two sisters, Linda Hartsell of Concord and Gertrude Johnson of Corpus Christi, TX. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
