Robert "Dale" Mullis

Robert Dale Mullis, better known as Dale, age 71 of West Jefferson, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his home.  Dale was born March 3, 1951 in Ashe County to the late Clarence and Stella Mae Reeves Mullis.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers, Billy and Jerry “Pedro” Mullis.  Dale worked at Thomasville Furniture for 30 years.  Later on he was employed at Parker Tie in the lumber department.  He spent 38 years as a basketball referee, traveling up and down the mountain late at night and on the weekends.

He was an active and devoted member of Warrensville United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent, adult teacher, lay teacher, choir member and he also served on various committees. He enjoyed camping with his family and riding his motorcycle.  Dale enjoyed being with people,  joking, teasing, pulling pranks and laughing with his friends.  A phone call from Dale to check on you was often an impersonation of Conway Twitty or a “what’s up”.  He will be missed greatly.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Michael Kurtz.  Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, September 5th at Badger Funeral Home.

Mr. Mullis is survived by his wife, Rita Trivette Mullis, daughter, Shannon Farmer and husband Robbie of Creston, step-daughter, Teresa Houck Hansen of Fleetwood, sisters, Linda Mullis of West Jefferson and Shirley Tincher of Denton, 7 grandchildren, Austin Miller, Brooke Matkins, Mickey Lewis, Torin Hansen, Autumn Farmer, Summer Farmer and Tyler Farmer and 1 great-grandchild, Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Warrensville United Methodist Church, 1173 Campbell Rd., Warrensville, NC  28693.

The family will be meeting at the home at 153 Furches Dr. in West Jefferson.
