Roger Wayne Hipp, 59, of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, on September 21, 1965 to Jerold and Joy Carlsen Hipp, Roger’s life was one of boundless curiosity, love, and appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerold Hipp.
Roger had a heart as big as the mountains he loved to call home. His loving spirit, poetic soul, and deep connection to music defined his life. A true child of the ’80s, Roger’s eclectic taste spanned from Rush and Journey to James Taylor, Bob Seger, John Denver, Beethoven, and even his “newest” discovery, Lady Gaga. Music was his constant companion, a source of joy and inspiration.
Roger was a dreamer who found wonder in the stars and planets, spending countless evenings gazing at the night sky and pondering the universe’s infinite possibilities. A lover of nature, he cherished his life in the mountains, where he found peace in the great outdoors. He delighted in feeding the birds, identifying their species as they visited, and sharing his days with his beloved furbabies, whose playful antics brought him endless joy.
Roger is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Amanda, and his mother, Joy Hipp. He also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Hipp, and nieces Arlie and Keelan; his mother-in-law, Beth Teskey; brother-in-law Mark Teskey (Rebecca); niece and nephew, Rowan and Ian; brother-in-law, Matthew Teskey (Kristy); and sisters-in-law Lisa Williams and Stephanie Rivera (Carlos).
In honoring Roger’s wishes, no formal services will be held. His family invites those who knew him to celebrate his memory by taking a moment to enjoy a star-filled sky, listen to a favorite song, or simply embrace the beauty of nature as he so often did.
