Ronald Lee Waln, affectionately known as "Ronnie", age 72 of Fleetwood passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at his home. Mr. Waln was born on February 5, 1952 in Takoma Park, Maryland to the late Robert Lee and Marjorie Joann Waldron Waln. In addition to his parents Ronnie was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bree Dawn Waln Dolinger.
Ronnie's entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-own one of the most beloved establishments in West Jefferson, Geno's, for over 25 years. Under his stewardship, Geno's became more than just a restaurant; it was a community hub, a place where friends gathered, and memories were made over plates of delicious cuisine and laughter-filled conversations.
Beyond his role as a restaurateur, Ronnie was also a skilled pilot who found solace in the vast skies above. His love for flying allowed him to constantly seek new horizons and adventures.
In his quieter moments, Ronnie could often be found indulging in one of his favorite hobbies – gem mining and rock tumbling. Whether he was sifting through dirt in search of precious stones or patiently waiting for rocks to transform into polished gems, Ronnie found joy in the beauty of nature and the artistry of craftsmanship.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Neel Waln, two sons, Jason Waln and Kevin McAbee, one daughter, Candice Johnson, two brothers, Steven Waln and David Waln, two sisters, Terry Hodges and Kim Waln. Six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Per Ronald’s wishes no services will be held.
