Rose Kirby

Mrs. Rose Cox Kirby, age 78 of Lansing, the Helton community, and the widow of Bryan Kirby Jr., passed away Monday, January 30, 2006 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was born June 25, 1927 in Rugby, Virginia to the late Joe and Imogene Spencer Cox. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anita Cheryl Kirby and her brother Roald B. Kirby.

She is survived by:

Two sons: Roald Kirby and wife Ellie of Troutdale, Virginia and Russell Kirby of the home.

One daughter: Helen Whited and husband Larry of Richlands, Virginia

Four grandchildren: Bryan Carmody and fiancée, Rebecca Brooks, Patrick Carmody, Elizabeth and Rosy Kirby

Sister: Eleanor Cox of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia

A host of cousins and dear friends

Mrs. Kirby graduated from Marion Junior College and Lenoir Rhyne College. She did postgraduate study at Appalachian State. She was a retired teacher of French, English and history at the Konnarock Lutheran School and Mt. Rogers High School in Virginia, and at Lansing and Northwest Ashe High Schools in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the Helton United Methodist Church in Lansing. Mrs. Kirby will lie in state from 11:00 till 1:00 PM prior to the service. Rev. Tommy McClure and Rev. Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in the Helton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 1st at the Helton United Methodist Church. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Helton United Methodist Church,
