View his video tribute. Roy A. Wallace, 95, passed away on February 29th, 2012. He was born to the late Sarah Catherine Hoffman and Alfred Jay Wallace on December 2nd, 1916 in Conover, NC. Roy passed away in Dallas, TX, where he lived with his daughter and son-in-law since 2009. He married Anne Caldwell of Crumpler, NC, on September 25, 1944 in Hiddenite, NC, and they lived most of their lives in Baltimore, MD. Married for 67 years, Anne preceded him in death on July 12, 2011. Roy slipped into eternal peace with his two children, Royce Wallace Moran, of Dallas, TX, and Gregor Keye Wallace of Baltimore, MD, at his bedside. He is also survived by his son-in-law Lester Moran and daughter-in-law Mitzi Crist Wallace. He had four grandchildren: Richard Beebe, Jr., Erin Moran Taylor, Melissa Wallace Brooks and Emory Wallace Marvin, and five great-grandchildren: Noah Taylor, Alura Brooks, Avarie Brooks, Samuel Taylor and Quincey Marvin. He and Anne were members of the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church in Crumpler, NC. Reaching the rank of Sergeant, Roy was a proud member of the US Army, and served his country in Okinawa during World War II. His honorable discharge in 1945 brought him home to Anne and his new baby daughter, and he took on the role of caring and dedicated father. He attended specialized training for refrigeration maintenance and spent most of his life working on commercial cargo ships in the port of Baltimore. During his retirement, he remained active and alert, and enjoyed reading about the Civil War and World War II history. Beekeeping was a passionate hobby for Roy, and he maintained multiple bee hives over the years, from which he enjoyed the fruits of their labor - honey. Roy earned the admiration and respect of all those with whom he worked. Many have come forward to voice their appreciation of his work ethic and ability to teach others his craft. Viewing will be at the Badger Funeral Home, 300 North Main Street, West Jefferson, NC on Sunday, March 4th, from 4pm to 7pm. His service and interment will be at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 604 Martin Gambill Rd, Crumpler, NC, on Monday, March 5th at 2pm.
