You may have heard a rumor that I died. Don't you believe it for a second. I am more alive now than I have ever been! Mrs. Ruby Ethel Barker Paisley Brooks, age 94, of Jefferson, NC, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. Mrs. Brooks was born on May 18, 1917 in Grassy Creek, NC to the late James Avery Barker and Jestin Stuart Barker. Mrs. Brooks was also preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Paul Woodrow "Roe" Paisley; her second husband, Stanley Brooks; infant daughter, Helen Marie Paisley, son, James Paisley, and daughter, Norma Ruth Paisley Barker, four brothers, Roger Barker, Chester Barker, Robert Barker and Gilbert Barker; three sisters, Nannie Johnston, Magdalene Phipps and Josephine Smith. Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and made pickled beans, jams, jellies, stack cakes, and baked goods sold at The Trading Post. Her most-requested candy was hand-pulled mints. She loved to garden and sew, but most of her enjoyment came from quilting. She was a faithful member of Bristol Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and liked to sing specials. She was a charter member of the Bristol Baptist Church Ladies' Circle. Often saying, "You can't out give the Lord" she was always willing to cook food or donate clothes to help friends or strangers in need. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Billy Joe Blevins, Rev. Lloyd Day, Brother David Woodie, and Brother Andrew Winebarger.
