Ruby (Killen) Sturgill Simmons

Ruby Killen Sturgill Simmons, age 88 of King, died Thursday, November 4, 2021 at her home.  Mrs. Simmons was born January 26, 1933 in Ashe County to the late Romey and Flora Mae Milam Killen.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by sons, Danny and Johnny Sturgill, daughter, Deborah Lynn Veler and several brothers and sisters.  Ruby attended Freedom Baptist Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.  Ruby enjoyed cross-stitching, working puzzles, painting and cooking.  She was friend to everyone and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 8, 2021 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. John White, Rev. Lloyd Day and speaker, Jerry Beason.  Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by, her husband, Wade Simmons; one son, Rick Sturgill and wife Dayna of Warrensville; three sisters, Louise Moser of Princeton, Jean Sawyer of King and Jewell of Mt. City. 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
