Ronald Scott Turnmyre was born on Saturday, May 30, 1959 in Caldwell County to the late Ralph James and Mary Edna Whisnant Turnmyre. He served in the  Army Reserves as a drill seargent, and the National Guard in Mechanized Infantry. Mr. Turnmyre was the  director of  bands at Ashe Central High School and later Ashe County High School until his retirement in 2010.   Scott  enjoyed traveling with the students of Ashe County sharing experiences through trips and performances. Following his retirement from the school system, he was appointed  the director of Ashe County Parks and Recreation in 2012. One of his accomplishments was the renovation and improvement of the facility at Family Central.
