Scott Turnmyre age 59 of Crumpler, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Ronald Scott Turnmyre was born on Saturday, May 30, 1959 in Caldwell County to the late Ralph James and Mary Edna Whisnant Turnmyre. Scott graduated from Alexander County High School and Lenoir Rhyne College with a degree in Music Education. He served in the Army Reserves as a drill seargent, and the National Guard in Mechanized Infantry. Mr. Turnmyre was the director of bands at Ashe Central High School and later Ashe County High School until his retirement in 2010. Scott enjoyed traveling with the students of Ashe County sharing experiences through trips and performances. He was passionate for all the bands, but was most proud of founding the steel drum band at Ashe County High School. Following his retirement from the school system, he was appointed the director of Ashe County Parks and Recreation in 2012. One of his accomplishments was the renovation and improvement of the facility at Family Central. Most of all, family came first with Scott. He enjoyed traveling to Disney World, New Orleans, camping, and pulling for his New Orleans Saints “Geaux Saints”. He touched the lives of many people during his time here on earth and will be dearly missed.
Mr. Turnmyre is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lisa Nash Turnmyre; two daughters, Megan Turnmyre and Lauren Turnmyre Soots, and Lauren’s husband Alex all of Hickory; his mother, Mary Turnmyre of Jefferson; and his pets, Nola and Boots.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Family Central Gymnasium with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. At the request of the family, please dress casually, wearing either black and gold or Husky purple.
