Shirley May (Hamby) Cowan

Mrs. Shirley May Hamby Cowan, age 72 of Crumpler, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. Mrs. Cowan was born on December 20, 1944 in Chester County, PA to George Glenn Blevins and Nola Hamby Wall. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Benjamin and Edward Ewell, grandsons, Aaron Bare and Brandon Johnson. Mrs. Cowan was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Minister Loren Lung. Burial will follow in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Cowan is survived by:  daughter, Debbie (James) Jones of Whiteville, NC; sons, Michael (Misty) Hohman of Laurel Springs, George (Lois) Johnson of Florida, and Robert (Barbara) Johnson of Lenoir; sisters, Debbie Miller of Delaware and Mary Lou Ewell of Crumpler; also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
