Stella Mae (Hurley) Blackburn

Stella Mae Hurley Blackburn, age 95 of Crumpler, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her home. Mrs. Blackburn was born on March 23, 1926 in Ashe County to Estel and Betty Shoemake Hurley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ivan Spencer Blackburn, and all her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Blackburn enjoyed cooking and working in her flowers, especially her roses and begonias. She was a member of Shelter Baptist Church.

She is survived by:  one son, Gerald Blackburn of Warrensville; one daughter Carlene Hiatt and husband Freddie of Mount Airy; also surviving are five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens by Rev. Louis Young and Rev. Chris Goodman. The family requests that masks be worn and please practice social distancing.

Mrs. Blackburn will lie in state from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

The family respectfully requests no food please. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scott-Blevins Cemetery Fund, in care of Roger Church, 453 Edwin Blevins Road, Lansing, NC 28643.
